Rare and Luxurious Most coffee (cherry) fruits contain two beans of approximately equal size. Yet, sometimes only one of the two seeds gets fertilized. This oval, or pea-shaped bean is known as Peaberry. Peaberry beans are widely reputed to roast better than flat berries; roasting more evenly because of their rounder shape. This has given peaberry a reputation for being smoother in flavor than most other coffee. With its extra smooth taste, this small round bean is considered the best of the best.
Typically around 5% of all harvested coffee beans are in peaberry form. This relatively small supply (especially 100% Kona Peaberry), combined with high demand, makes Kona peaberry coffee, luxurious and rare. |  |
